Trek Nepal and Community Project Itinerary
Saturday 8 October – Day 1 - UK to Kathmandu
Depart for an overnight flight to Kathmandu
Sunday 9 October – Day 2 - Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to a central hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to settle in and explore independently. Gather for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant tonight.
Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 October – Days 3 and 4 – Kathmandu
Spend two full days assisting at a local project.
Hospice Nepal is a non-profit organisation in Kathmandu offering services and support to terminally-ill patients and their families. It was set up by a team of local doctors in 2000, and since then has provided free-of-charge medicines, therapies and support to those in need. It is envisaged we will assist with some basic refurbishment at the hospice, such as repainting rooms and improving kitchen or bathroom facilities. Further details will be confirmed nearer the time.
Wednesday 12 October – Day 5 - Kathmandu to Pokhara
After breakfast, we depart for the scenic drive to Pokhara (approx. 6 hours). Spend a relaxing afternoon in this beautiful lakeside town, or take the opportunity to do some last minute shopping in preparation for the trek!
Thursday 13 October – Day 6 – Pokhara to Birethanti to Tirkhedhunga
Transfer by road to Nayapul (approx. 2 hours) from where we commence the trek. Follow the banks of the Bhurungdi Khola River as far as Tikhedhunga (1575m), then it is a steep uphill walk to Ulleri where we stay the night in a lodge. (2073m)
Friday 14 October – Day 7 – Ullery to Ghorepani
A day of ascent! Gradually gain more altitude as you walk for about 5 hrs to the overnight base in Ghorepani (2800m).
Saturday 15 October – Day 8 – Ghorepani to Poonhill to Tadapani
Early this morning ascend to Poonhill (3400m) for a spectacular sunrise view over the Annapurna Massif, Dhawalagiri (8167m) and other ranges. After a picnic breakfast, it is then a downhill walk, via Deorali, to reach Tadapani. The route is through peaceful forestland, famed for its rhododendrons. Overnight at a lodge in Tadapani.
Sunday 16 October – Day 9 – Tadapani to Ghanduk
The descent to Ghandruk is a relatively easy walk, with spectacular views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchre snow-capped peaks all the way down from Ghorepani. Ghandruk is a beautiful Gurung Village, where most of the inhabitants were Gurkhas. Overnight in a lodge.
Monday 17 October – Day 10 – Ghandruk to Pokhara
The final day’s trekking. It is about a 6 hour walk to Birethanti, from where we travel by road back to Pokhara. Overnight in a hotel.
Tuesday 18 October – Day 11 – Pokhara to Kathmandu
Return drive to Kathmandu. Celebrate with a farewell dinner this evening.
Wednesday 19 October – Day 12 – Kathmandu to UK
Transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK (may arrive next day depending on flight times)
