Gift Aid is a Government scheme which allows charities to claim the basic rate tax on every pound donated. This means that if you were to make a donation of £100 to the Hospice, you’ll actually be giving us £125 at no extra cost to you!

If you are a UK taxpayer, the value of your donation can increase by 25% under the Gift Aid scheme at no extra cost to you!

Do I qualify for Gift Aid?

In order for the Hospice to reclaim the tax you have paid on your donations, you must have paid income or capital gains tax (in the UK) for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) at least equal to the tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs that you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

How do I sign up to Gift Aid?

If you’re making a donation online, you can tick the Gift Aid box on the donation form. If you’ve just made a donation and would like it to be “Gift Aid-ed”, please fill in the form above.

Can you reclaim Gift Aid on goods I donate to a Hospice shop?

Certainly! You can download one of our shop Gift Aid forms here. Complete this and hand it in when you donate your goods to one of our shops and we’ll take care of the rest.

What is a Gift Aid declaration?

A Gift Aid declaration is a statement by an individual taxpayer that they want a charity to receive the tax paid on their donation back from the Government.

How long does the declaration last for?

Your declaration will cover your present, future and past donations to the Hospice. We can back-claim up to four years in the past and we will continue to claim until you tell us otherwise.

What do I do if I my tax status changes or I want to cancel my declaration?

Higher Rate Tax Payers and Gift Aid

If you pay higher rate tax, you can claim the difference between the higher rate of tax 40 and/or 50 per cent and the basic rate of tax 20 per cent on the total 'gross' value of your donation. If you want to receive the additional tax relief you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

The SA Donate Scheme ceased from April 2012. This means that donors can no longer send a tax refund to a charity straight from their tax return. Donors can still donate their tax refund to any charity themselves and claim Gift Aid if the qualifying conditions have been met.
