Spiritual care

Spiritual care

Our Spiritual Care Team is made up of volunteers of different ages, backgrounds, beliefs and experiences.

The team are available in Day Services, the adult in-patient unit and Jigsaw Children's Hospice, to provide compassionate companionship to patients and families, and to be a support in whatever way they may be asked.

Religious care is provided on request and there are regular short acts of Christian worship in the Fold, to which all are welcome. These are dependent on patient need and the availability of the team.

We have contact with representatives of other world religions and belief organisations. Please contact the Spiritual Care Lead for more information.

If you would like to see someone from the Spiritual Care Team, please ask one of the nursing or reception staff to get in touch with us. We are happy to see patients and families individually. This may be for a listening ear about whatever is on your mind, or to receive prayer support or communion. We can also help with funeral planning and family support.

The Spiritual Care Team work within the Family Support Team. We operate a strict patient confidentiality policy in the Hospice. We also work closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues in order to offer you the best possible care. If we feel we need to share information about you, we will discuss this with you beforehand.

The Fold

The Fold is open for anyone to use as a place for peace and quiet, to pray, light a candle or just a place in which to sit. There is often quiet music playing in the background (which you can turn down or off if you wish). We also have a book for your thoughts, prayers and reflection. Our Compassion Tree is also there, with leaves that you can write the name of a loved one and hang on the tree.

Our Spiritual Care Team work to the standards of:
The Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains and the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy.
