Families across Cumbria are being invited to remember a loved one this summer and help support a much-loved local charity as part of the annual Garden Memories appeal run by Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
The annual appeal has now launched for 2022 and gives people the chance to make a real difference to their local hospice and the families who receive their dedicated and compassionate care.
The appeal also gives people the opportunity to remember someone special by making a donation and then having a decorative bark leaf personalised with the name of a loved one. The leaf will then be hung on the newly refurbished summer house in the vibrant hospice gardens off Durdar Road, Carlisle, bringing together cherished memories from countless local families.
As well as being a vital fundraising initiative for the charity, Garden of Memories is an opportunity for people to come to the hospice, relax and surround themselves with memories they hold dear by attending a special service at the hospice on Wednesday, August 10th 2022, between 6pm and 7.30pm.
Jenny Wilson, Deputy CEO and Head of Clinical Services at the hospice, said: “Any kind donations will help to provide local people with life limiting illnesses and their families with dedicated care, love and support.
“Our aim is to make every precious moment together an occasion to treasure. For example, recently, while a patient’s family were visiting from Ireland, the ward staff organised a party for her granddaughter’s eighth birthday with balloons, banners and cake. This meant a lot to them all to be able to celebrate and spend quality time together.
“We’d love our local community to once again support the Garden of Memories appeal, support their local hospice and take the chance to remember someone dear to them.”
Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice must raise more than £3m each year to continue offering care and support to people from across the county with life-limiting illnesses and their families, friends and carers.
